Firefighters made a valiant effort in protecting a nearby
exposure--another dry docked vessel was less than 10 feet away from the
burning boat and sustained no damage thanks to the efforts of the New
Bedford Firefighters. (Photos by Firefighter Chuck Bailey, Captain

Baskin-Robbins, in partnership with the
National Fallen Firefighters' Foundation,
sponsored 31 cent scoop night, on Wednesday, May
2, 2007. In addition to the bargain
scoops, Baskin-Robbins will support fallen
heroes by making a donation of $100,000 to the NFFF. Also, local firefighters have been invited
to the event to collect donations. Dunkin'
Brands, the parent company of the ice cream
giant and Dunkin' Donuts, is the major sponsor
of the NFFF's Whistle Stop Tour. They provided
the foundation a $250,000 grant for the effort.
Local 841 members were on
hand to help scoop ice cream for the crowd. Reserve Engine 27 was also
present for children to climb aboard real fire engine. On-duty members
also stopped by throughout the evening. Thanks to all members who came
out to show their support for such a great cause! (Thanks to FF Jolene
Menard for assisting with the photos)

April 5, 2007
(Group A working) At approximately 0200 hours on Thursday, April 5,
2007, Box 3 was transmitted for a working fire at 2237 Acushnet Avenue,
just north of Lund's Corner. Engine 9 was first due at the scene, and
upon their arrival, they found fire and smoke showing from a 2-story
wood frame residential home, all occupants out of the building. The
initial box assignment consisted of E-9, E-5, E-8, L-4, and Unit 1.
Ladder 1 responded as a FAST team and the fire would eventually go to
the equivalent of a 2nd alarm. (Photos courtesy of NBFD Fire Prevention
Bureau)

April 3, 2007
(Group B working) Shortly before 1900 hours on Tuesday, April 3,
2007, Box 387 was transmitted from Headquarters for a report of smoke in the
basement and the possibility of a civilian trapped at 2750 Acushnet Avenue,
between Dutton and Fairfield Streets. The initial response assignment
consisted of Engine 9, Engine 8, Engine 5, Ladder 4, and Unit 1.
Shortly after the first alarm assignment was sent out, Fire Alarm was
notified that police officers on scene were unable to gain entry to the
building due to heavy smoke. Within seconds, Engine Co. 9 arrived on
scene and confirmed a working fire at the location, bringing Ladder 1 to the
scene as a FAST truck. As firefighters
from Engine 9 were deploying an inch and 3/4 attack line, the fire room
began to flash over. E-9 then made an aggressive attack from the
exterior to darken the fire and to protect a nearby exposure building.
Engine 8 members stretched a second attack line into the building, and
Engine 5 and Ladder 4 conducted a primary search of the structure, which
confirmed all occupants had escaped from the building. Members from
the Fire Prevention Bureau were called in to investigate the fire.

of a car on fire inside a garage on Linden Court, between Linden and Austin
Streets. Responding to the incident were Engine 7, Engine 1, and
Engine 9 in place of Engine 8 (Engine 8 was unavailable while at another
incident) and Ladder 1. Upon arrival of the first due engine company,
the officer of Engine 7 reported smoke showing/working fire. The fire
was contained to the engine compartment of a late model Ford Mustang and no
extension to the garage was found after overhaul operations were conducted.
Members from the Fire Prevention Bureau were investigating.
