There are currently 7 active
fire stations in the city of New Bedford housing 7 engine companies
and 3 ladder companies, supervised by 2 district chiefs. The
department also maintains a Fire Prevention office located in the
former New Bedford Vocational High School.

Station 2 - Headquarters
868 Pleasant Street
Station 2 is located in the downtown section of the city and was
built in 1917. It houses
Engine 1,
Ladder 1,
and
Unit 2.
The administrative offices of the N.B.F.D. are located here, as well
as the Fire Alarm dispatch room. Members of Engine 1 staff Marine Unit 1 when it is needed. |

Station 5
3665 Acushnet Ave
Built in 1956 and located in the far north end of New Bedford,
Engine 5 is
assigned here. Station 5 has large apparatus bays, and often houses
reserve apparatus.

Station 6
151 Purchase Street
Built in 1882. Station 6 is located in the south end of
the city at the corner of Purchase and Potomska Streets.
Engine 6 and
Ladder 3 are housed here. In 2000, a new
apparatus bay was constructed to house the new Ladder 3.

Station 7
700 Cottage Street
Built in 1889. Station 7 is located in the west end of
New Bedford at the corner of Durfee and Cottage Streets, within a
short distance from New Bedford High School. Station 7 is home
to Engine 7, along with
Reserve
Engine 27.

Station 8
1599 Acushnet Ave.
Station 8 was built in 1893 and is located in the north end,
at the corner of Acushnet Ave. and Davis St.
Engine 8,
Ladder 4, and
Unit 1 are housed here. In 2004, a new apparatus bay
was built in the rear of Station 8 to house the new Ladder 4.

Station 9
799 Ashley Blvd.
Station 9 was built in 1934 at the corner of Ashley Blvd. and
Tarkiln Hill Rd. It was the first fire station in the city to
be built for motorized apparatus.
Engine 9 is stationed here.

Station 11
754 Brock Ave.
Built in 1908. Station 11 is located at the corner of
Brock Ave. and Mott St. in the far south end of the city.
Originally home to Hose 4, this station now houses
Engine 11. |

Fire Prevention

The Fire Prevention office of the New Bedford Fire Department
is located in a section of the former New Bedford Technical
Vocational High School on Hillman Street. |

Training Division
1214 Purchase Street
The New Bedford Fire Department training facility occupies a
space in the Public Safety training facility located at 1214
Purchase Street. This training academy consists of a large
classroom, conference room, and the Training Captain's office. |
